Causes of Early Menopause

Menopause refers to a phase in the life of women, in which their menstrual cycle ends forever and they lose fertility. Menopause is just a phase of life; it is not any kind of infection or disease. Early menopause, as the name suggests, refers to the occurrence of menopause in women before time. Almost all the women dread the menopause phase as it does not come alone. Rather it brings several kinds of problems like mood swings, fatigue, bone loss etc. with itself. It is clear that no women want to get early menopause. Estrogen and progesterone are two very important hormones present in the body of women. These two hormones are produced naturally by the ovaries. The main task performed by these hormones in the body is to control the menstrual cycle in women. Estrogen also performs several other important tasks in the body. When menopause occurs between the ages of 40 to 60, it causes reduction in the production of estrogen and progesterone in the body of women. The production of progesterone is completely stopped in menopause because ovulation also stops. All this leads to hormonal imbalance in the body of women and it causes early menopause.



Exact causes of early menopause are not clear yet. Surgery can also be the cause of early menopause. Women who get their both ovaries removed or fallopian tube and uterus removed; may suffer from early menopause due to hormonal imbalance. Certain medical procedures like chemotherapy, radiation therapy and Tamoxifen may also cause severe damage to the ovaries. It may lead to early menopause caused by chemical reactions. In such cases, periods of women stops and in some cases even if they return, women find themselves infertile. Tamoxifen which is given to breast cancer patients reduces the production of estrogen in the body of women. This is also one o the main causes of early menopause. Excessive loss of weight may also cause early menopause.
