Osteoporosis is a very common problem which usually occurs in a large number of people. It signifies excessive weakening of bones of an individual. People who suffer from osteoporosis are more likely to get their bones fractured. Women are more likely to suffer from this disease. Osteoporosis should not be neglected. It should be treated with the help of medication. There was a time when this disease was usually noticed in elderly people but now it affects a large number of young people as well. Inactive lives and lack of nutrition promotes the occurrence of this condition.

The occurrence of osteoporosis takes place in the body when there is some problem in the creation of new bones and resorption of old bones. When the body of a person finds it impossible to create new bones or old bones are reabsorbed for most part then osteoporosis occurs. Calcium and phosphate are necessary for bone formation in the body. Calcium is also required for smooth functioning of brain, heart and some other organs of human body. Therefore, the body utilizes the calcium stored in bones for smooth working of heart and other organs. If calcium is not consumed in proper quantities then osteoporosis occurs. Thyroid problems, lack of activity and genetic problems are some other causes of osteoporosis.



There are no symptoms of osteoporosis in initial stages. However, pain in joints may trouble the patients of osteoporosis. Some people get to know they have osteoporosis when their bone gets fractured due to an insubstantial injury. Basically, bones get fragile due to osteoporosis. Doctors advise people to increase their calcium intake for the treatment of osteoporosis. Calcium tablets are given to the patients and they are advised to eat calcium rich foods like milk. Walking is a good exercise which should be done by the people who have osteoporosis. People are also advised to expose themselves to sunlight for some time every day. This helps in formation of Vitamin D in the body. Vitamin D is also required for good health of the bones.
